SMRT BUSES LTD

SMRT BUSES ISLANDWIDE NIGHTRIDER NETWORK CATERS TO YOUR TRANSPORT NEEDS ALL NIGHT LONG

INTRODUCTION

In an unprecedented initiative, SMRT Buses Ltd, which was known as Trans-Island Bus Services Ltd (Tibs) back then, introduced a special night service, termed the NightRider, NR 1 on Friday, 10 March 2000 to provide another transport option for those who stay out late and who otherwise would only have the taxi as their mode of transport if they do not own a car or do not wish to drive.

NR 1, Singapore's first night service, received positive response and support. It is a welcome option for night revellers and even some night shift workers as it provide a safe and affordable travel option to a broad range of potential users.

Following the successful launch of NR 1, six more services, namely NR 2, 3, 5, 6, 7 and 8, were introduced to provide an island-wide network in May 2000 to provide greater connectivity for Singaporeans.

Singapore MRT Ltd, now known as SMRT Trains Ltd, introduced the three SN services, namely SN10, SN20 and SN30 on 1 July 2000 to provide affordable and convenient travel during those hours when the MRT ceases to operate.

On 1 July 2003, the three SN services were operated as part of the NR network and re-branded as NightRider services with some amendments to the routings. SN 10, 20 and 30 will be incorporated into NR 1, 5 and 7. Changes to the routes of the existing NR services will also be effected on 1 July.

Under the integrated network, there will be a total of seven NR services - NR 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, and 8 which will operate on Fridays, Saturdays and eves of Public Holidays.
